In 2013 when she started her family, she faced the common dilemma of balancing work with parenting. Thus, Whata Basket was born—a venture fueled by industry inspirations but primarily driven by Jean's unique vision and creativity.
Jean redefined traditional gift designs through Whata Basket, introducing eclectic gifts that left lasting impressions on recipients. Jean sought to transform the gift-giving game one eclectic basket at a time. At Whata Basket, she believed every gift should tell a story and leave a lasting impression. This innovative approach didn’t just set new standards; it reshaped the entire gifting industry landscape.
Her efforts sparked a transformation where others soon followed suit in elevating their offerings. The evolution of this industry also brought its challenges. What once thrived on about 1,000 keywords now demanded tens of thousands due to increased online competition—a daunting task for any e-commerce site but particularly burdensome for solo entrepreneurs like Jean.
Through brands like Manbox and The GiftCo., Jean expanded her enterprise into a formidable $2 million powerhouse despite facing global disruptions such as COVID-19 which significantly impacted many businesses worldwide during the 2020-2022 period.
Faced with escalating operational costs across three sites while already immersed in SEO, content marketing, and website design for nearly two decades, Jean asked herself how she could manage both effectively. Despite these challenges—and after an initial failed sale attempt—she successfully sold Whata Basket in 2024 to an excellent family-run business committed to carrying forward the legacy she had built so passionately.
